----- Clinical Counseling Intern - Northwestern University
(she/her/hers)

Bridget Montgomery is a Clinical Intern and a graduate student in Counseling at Northwestern University. She believes in a compassionate and collaborative approach to treatment, and she focuses on working with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, self-esteem, body image issues, perfectionism, life transitions, and sports performance.

Areas of Expertise
____
Anxiety, depression, eating disorders, self-esteem, body image issues, perfectionism, life transitions, and sports performance.

Bridget is as an Emerging Scholar at Northwestern University, working under the supervision of Dr. Michele Kerulis. Together, they launched the first-ever Psyching Team to partner with the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The purpose of a Psyching Team is two-fold: to normalize mental health and sport psychology, and to offer mental skills techniques to athletes on a mass scale. In addition to her Emerging Scholar work, Bridget’s graduate research interests include feeding and eating disorders, ethical practices in the treatment of eating disorders, eating disorder screening tools for college athletes, viewing body size diversity as a social justice issue, and multicultural counseling. She works with clients of all races, sizes, genders, orientations, abilities, religions, ethnicities, and socioeconomic statuses.

Bridget creates a space for her clients that is hopeful, non-judgmental, affirming, empathic, respectful, and warm. She uses evidence-based treatments in her sessions like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RODBT).

A note from Bridget:

I decided to become a therapist because I wholeheartedly believe in the healing power of this work, and I wholeheartedly believe that we are all worthy of a safe and non-judgmental space to explore our stories, to edit them if needed, and to find ways to connect to a life that brings us meaning, fulfillment, and joy. I like to think of therapy as a “recovering to” and not just as a “recovering from.” I would describe my therapeutic style as warm, compassionate, and hopeful. In my free time, I love hanging out with my two children, my husband, and our dog, Loki Blue. I also enjoy taking quiet walks by the lake, laughing with friends, listening to podcasts, and watching documentaries.

While her office is located in downtown Chicago next to Millenium park for in-person sessions, she also welcomes and serves clients for online therapy from anywhere in Illinois. Clients from the Chicagoland area may choose in-office or online therapy and usually commute from surrounding areas such as River North, South Loop, West Loop, Gold Coast, Old Town, Lincoln Park, Lake View, Logan Square, Wicker Park, Bucktown and many more.
